The largest seizure of synthetic drugs in Poland - CBŚP eliminated nearly a ton of psychotropic drugs

Liquidated 3 laboratories of synthetic drugs, seizure of nearly 879 kg of mephedrone, detention of 15 persons, including 3 so-called chemists - these are the effects of operations of the Lubusian Regional Bureau of Security (CBŚP). The investigation is conducted by the National Public Prosecutor "s Office from Poznań, and earlier activities were conducted by the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Zielona Góra. The black market value of secured substances amounts to over 43 million PLN. Officers from CLKP, KWP from Gorzów Wlkp. and Fire Brigade from Gorzów Wlkp. and Gubin also took part in investigating the case.
Police officers from the Gorzów Wielkopolski Board of the Central Bureau of Investigation together with the Investigation Department of the District Prosecutor's Office in Zielona Góra dismantled an organised criminal group operating in the Lubuskie Voivodship. According to the findings of the investigation, members of the gang were involved in manufacturing and marketing wholesale quantities of drugs in the form of mephedrone and amphetamine. It has been initially estimated that they could have gained several dozen million zlotys from this operation.
CBŚP officers have been investigating this group for over a year and during this time they closed 3 laboratories producing synthetic drugs, taking over nearly 879 kg of mephedrone, 3.5 kg of marijuana and nearly 4 thousand litres of liquid and solid substances which were submitted to laboratory research.
During a search of a production hall in Zielona Góra in May 2020 police officers discovered a laboratory where the process of manufacturing synthetic drugs was in progress. The scale on which psychotropic substances were manufactured was enormous. Nearly 375 kg of mephedrone, 1 100 litres of substances which can be used to produce the drug and devices comprising a professional line used to produce this substance were secured.
In Górzyn, Lubuskie Voivodeship, Żary District, on the premises of a private property in January 2021, another laboratory was closed down and several hundred kg of chemical substances were seized. After thorough analyses carried out in CLKP, it turned out that it was 337 kg of mephedrone and a considerable amount of semi-products used for manufacturing this drug.
On the other hand, in June this year, in the area of Gubin in the Lubuskie Province, another drug production line and approximately 3 000 litres of liquid substances and over 200 kg of solid substances were secured. So far, as a result of detailed analyses conducted by the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police in Warsaw, 167 kg of mephedrone has been confirmed among the secured substances. In the course of liquidation of the laboratory, equipment and devices were secured, which indicated that drugs could have been manufactured there on a large scale for several months. The size of the plant may be proved by the fact that its inspection was conducted for almost 24 hours by over a dozen officers, including experts from the Forensic Laboratory of the Regional Police Headquarters in Gorzów Wielkopolski. The concentration of harmful vapours in the rooms was so high that it was necessary to involve fire brigade units from Gorzów Wielkopolski and Gubin to ventilate them.
In the course of the activities a machine gun, a short firearm and several thousand pieces of ammunition were also secured.
In total, 15 persons were detained during the operations, including, inter alia, 3 so-called chemists and 3 persons suspected of organising this criminal activity. Only during the last operations 5 persons, between 27 and 38 years of age were detained. Officers from Special Teams of the CBŚP from Poznań, Wrocław and Gorzów Wlkp. took part in the operation. It is worth noting that at least 134 kg of mephedrone could be obtained from the secured chemical substances which are drug precursors in individual laboratories.
The detainees, in the District Prosecutor's Office in Zielona Góra heard charges concerning, inter alia, participation in an organised criminal group, manufacturing or possession of considerable amounts of psychotropic substances. According to legal regulations, it is a crime punishable by 3 to 15 years of imprisonment. On the motion of the Central Bureau of Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Public Prosecutor's Office, a preventive measure in the form of temporary arrest for the period of 3 months was applied to 9 suspects.
Nearly PLN 350 000 worth of property belonging to suspects was secured towards future penalties and fines.
Currently, the investigation is conducted by the Department for Organised Crime and Corruption of the National Public Prosecutor "s Office in Poznań, in cooperation with officers of the CID.
