I am attempting to get back into cooking and is looking for a source of ammonium nitrate. I previously used cold packs but all the ones near me now have urea or calcium ammonium nitrate Its possible to remove the calcium through a process with ammonium sulfate but if I had access to that why wouldn't I just use that. I used to work in the mining industry in which we used ANFO for blasting. Its a pretty simple explosive in which AN is the oxidizer and reacts with the alkane hydrocarbon (diesel fuel) to create energy. This led me to making my own by taking AN pellets from a binary target which are readily available to buy. Why dont people just use these pellets in their SnB. You can buy them 5LB for $35ish which will yeild rougly 2kg AN. It there another chemical in these targets that prevent their use? Am I the first one to think of this? What is yall's thoughts?
