Hello friends, as you can see from the title, I'm creating this post to find sellers or companies, as well as websites, to buy technical grade sulfuric acid (H2SO4) above 96%.

From other related posts, we already know that acid can be distilled and purified at lower concentrations, but for many things this isn't enough or it carries the risk of contamination from handling the liquids. I suggest we forget about that and focus on finding a supplier of H2SO4 for this forum in europe.

It's also known that you can buy things on Google, but some stores require ID. It seems you can give fake information, but this could cause problems and lead to being tracked or worse, the police showing up at your house. So I think that's out of the question too. However, if anyone has had good results, they could share their experience, and the name of the store would be helpful.

Finally, and most importantly, if you are a seller of sulfuric acid (H2SO4), or know who could sell it in Europe without risk, or know any way to obtain it without paperwork, please share your experience in this post.

Not just some stores require ID. I've checked dozens of online stores and all of them do. Don't be fooled if it's not mentioned with product details - in those cases it's included in terms of service and other documents usually linked in a header/footer. This EU regulation is being taken extremely seriously by all sellers, as far as I can see.

Prospect buyers should review what they want to use it for. Few applications require the peak concentration and if your use case dilutes it before use then you might as well get it weaker or even make it yourself. Sulfuric acid <= 15 % is sold without restriction or paperwork in the EU and to turn it into 80 % concentration is easy and relatively safe. Just boil off water until you reach 200 °C. Bam, that's 80 % sulfuric acid, not pure but sufficient for some uses. The additional 16 % to reach 96 % is costly, difficult and very dangerous.

I obtained my stash of concentrated sulfuric acid by distilling my own. Nobody cared when I picked up an order of 40 kg of 14 % H2SO4 and over the course of several months I concentrated it first to 80 % and then distilled it to get 80, 93 or 96 % concentration, depending on the batch. I've learned a ton of practical tips, if anyone considers going this route I'm happy to share what I know to maximize your chance of success. I recommend buying it if there is any possibility to do so. But if you require no paper trail, completely undocumented pure high concentration acid, then this is a way.

Yes, that's what I was saying, it's practically impossible to buy it in any store. It is possible to distill it, but even then, as you mentioned, it would still contain about 20% water, which isn't viable for some uses, and distillation to 93% or higher isn't an easy or quick process. That's why I wanted to make a post just for buying this substance, since many people post about buying it, but none of them mention a reliable seller.

You can distill to any concentration up to 98 %, you just need to separate the head and start collecting once only pure H2SO4 starts coming over. That's why you need to start at a relatively high concentration, I recommend at least 80 %, which is convenient as 80 % is reachable by simply boiling off water. The weak head can be collected across multiple runs, concentrated through boil off and then distilled again. This is what makes it such a lengthy process.
