Depending on the material of the pump parts that come into contact with the solvent, a cold trap should be connected in order to condense the vapors that are created by the vacuum. This also prevents the solvent vapors from being distributed in the room.

You should also create a possibility to regulate the vacuum, not always the full suction power is needed.
I have solved this with a T-piece in the suction line where I can inject false air to adjust the vacuum.

so...been trying to understand how to connect...and... im not sure haha ...
could you please explain me?

with ice bath should be enough right? not needed liquid nitrogen for that , right?
Hi, it is not a cold trap. It is a vacuum adapter for vacuum distillation.
whats the reason for the salt?
as for the dewar.... there is another option? just ice/bath salt is not enough? like use a metallic container of an appropiate size?
The greater the amount of salt, the lower the freezing point (to a point; once there is sufficient salt that no more will dissolve, the freezing point no longer decreases). Ocean water is about 3.5% salt; sea water freezes at about 28°F (-2° C). A 10% salt solution freezes at about 20°F (-6°C), and a 20% solution freezes at 2°F (-16°C).
If you have the possibility to always add or exchange ice/salt, this is also possible without an insulated vessel. Depending on how long you have the pump in use, the cooling brine warms up and the trap becomes ineffective.
A dewar keeps the salt/ice mixture cold for a long time.
i dont have a dewar, but a thermo container would work? (dont know if thermo is correctly named in english? (the one used to keep cold/warm the food/cofee etc)
what salt % would you recommend me?
Yes you can, if it is big enough, a dewar is the same only two times and more isolated in industry standard, I got one cheap at a second hand onlinestore in the correct size for my trap.something like that could work? (this is the typicall to get food/cofee etc in good temp) here is named termo or thermo
Yes, you can use it as well. If you need to make less temperature, read about Dry ice (-78.5 deg) laboratory handling and Liquid nitrogen (N2) laboratory handling
I have supersaturated the brine with salt, so with me there is still salt on the bottom which has not dissolved, above is always a thick soft layer of ice, like snow slush and according to the thermometer -21-23°C cold. With acetone I could try even deeper, but that's enough for me. I also use the brine to cool my flask during exothermic reduction, I use the same brine all the time.
If you need to go even lower, find out about dry ice deliveries in your area, the dry ice can probably be used for up to 48h and also delivered on schedule.
