Hey,

I got a problem with my chemistry kit, and im stuck without buchner funnel and pump for another 2 weeks.
Have you ever filtrated it in another way? got any tips? Gravity filtration wouldnt really work right?
I was just planning to play arround with different crystalizing methods and it would be a shame to waste all this time.
Please, if you got any tips or thoughts - let me know.
Thank you

Where are you at? Pour it into a priority mail flat rate envelope ( the ones made of tyvek) and squeeze it? Nail or clamp the top to something and twist other up really tight? I'd suggest centering the thing so the low point I the middle of the front ( so your not forcing the seams. I use them in place of filter disks sometimes they are the best free filters I'm aware of and although not measured or marketed as filters, under a microscope tend to be equivocal to 30-40 micron filters. Way tighter than a coffee filter for sure

Im from EU, im not familiar with the tyvek brand and envelopes, but the painters suits gave me idea that it might be the same material as a tarp that people use here in gardening, some sort of insulation material and windblocker but still breathable, its slightly transparent. But ill check for some thicker option and will give it a go if it wont act funny with ethyl acetate. Thank you for the idea. I was thinking something similar to cheese making, they filter the cheese with some kind of cloth, but couldnt figure out what to look for. Thank you.

Depending on what you are filtering, paper towels napkins coffee filtersor toilet paper are sometimes the best choice. fine filters clog easily, you're not going to be able to filter the cellulose off of that pill decoction with a micron filter for sure 20 sheets of toilet paper it is

Yeah, not just any old body puts an envelope under a microscope and measures the openings ( not just anybody has an actual microscope with a reticle and stage micrometer). I've taped a million1.5 x 1.5 inch squares of tyvek to lids. they're a bit tight for bags or substrate, but grain masters and lcs don't need much fat, basically just to keep I from pressurizing. they are HDPE( THE TYVEK) so they only survive 1 round of autoclaving. if you try to runs, some will probably bulge because they seal shut eventually. a little dab of rtv on both side of a 1/2" hole in the lid for an injection port.....or an earplug.
