Synthesis of JWH-018 with Me2AlCl

Reaction scheme:

Synthesis:
1. To a stirred solution of 10 g of 1-pentylindole in 25 ml dry DCM at 0 *C was added dropwise 100 ml of Me2AlCl 1M in hexanes and stirred 30 min at 0 *C.
2. Freshly solution of 11,2 g 1-naphthoyl chloride in 25 ml DCM was added dropwise at 0 *C and mixture was stirred at ambient temperature overnight.
3. The reaction was quenched with water and was extracted with DCM portions.
4. The DCM solution was washed with water and 1M KOH, dried (MgSO4) and the solvent was removed in vacuo to give the crude product, as a yellow solid (69%).

When you say "extracted with DCM" in step 3, are you referring to extraction from the water layer? I thought JWH wasn't soluble in water, so I'm thinking maybe I don't understand this step all the way. Also, let me know if I can DM you to ask about my own synth of JWH018. I saw you help out a lot of other people on the forum. Thanks!
