I'm preparing for my first synthesis, and before I start ordering basic equipment, I need to decide where I'm going to cook. I live in a small apartment and I'd like better airflow, so I'm trying to avoid cooking in my apartment. I live in a city so cooking outside would be really inconvenient as I'd have to travel kind of far, and I also would have trouble powering a furnace. I could get a storage unit, but that doesn't sound much better than my apartment in terms of airflow. The synthesis I'm doing isn't that dangerous but it involves high temperatures and some nitrogen gas as a biproduct, but after that decomposition it is safe to work in my apartment. I'm starting to think I'll have to travel to a far away forest but I'm hoping someone has a better idea.

If you don't have to hide what you are trying to do from anybody you are living with, it goes without saying, this makes things much easier.
It is not a good idea to be carrying all kinds of shit around back and forth. Especially if you are like me and have to worry about getting stopped and harassed everywhere you go. You can't trust anybody but you can't do it by yourself, either. Practice small at home and get your routine down to a science and then go take a long ride and go big so you don't have to do it as often. Find a good site that is remote and inaccessable. Stock pile stuff at the cook site, dig a trench to work in, set up a perimeter with game cams, don't use the same path to get there each time, be random and unpredictable. Don' tell anybody, no witnesses. Do I need to add wear gloves aka don't leave a trace? One night you go and get your cook off. Destroy everything and bury the product - you can have it ready to dead drop it right off the stove, so to speak. Then don't go from the cook straight home. Get a hotel, take a shower, go do your errands, make sure noone is following or watching you. You don't ever have to drive around dirty if you bring everything small quantity and piecemal. If I get stopped with a backpack full of almond flavor, even though there is nothing illegal or necessarily suspicious about it (that anybody has heard of) with me, they arent going to let up until they find some kind of criminal intent. So hopefully you aren't this guy, like me, otherwise you gotta really think ahead and even then ..all it takes is getting stopped in the wrong place at wrong time.
