"The hardest part is the bromination"
Bromination is in fact easiest part. Just add Br2 and stir until magic happens (2C-B * HBr salt crashes out).
Then filter, wash and dry. Hydrobromide salt is also suitable for consumption, but can be converted to HCl.
If you start from ready made nitrostyrene, overall synthesis is also pretty simple.
But I can offer you even better psychedelics for recreational purposes, with similarly simple route.
I'll try to describe my opinion later.

Nice.
Yea, I have been passively and loosely poking around at which aldehyde or styrene/amine combination will condense into a good propene for reduction. I am not sure if the usual pattern of Henry reaction into AlHg or metal catalyst reduction will translate into not so obscure substutes that I can find and use. I'm learning to just attack it from a few steps away instead of trying to get as close as possible to the finish like everybody else. The long way is sometimes quicker it seems, even if you are trying to chase money, but it is also part of the fun if you like to do chemistry.
I remember seeing some of the aldehydes on ebay a while ago and thinking .. " Hmm. Honeypot? " Like... who in the fuck would be selling 2,3,5-Triethylbenzaldehyde online like that? .. the compound has basically ONE potential purpose and that involves PIKHAL... If you know what it is - you know what it is for.
Try explaining that one. ....."Oh.. uh ... yea... um.. I ordered the wrong item on accident" ?

I forgot, there was a fingernail painting product that had nitroethane in it but I believe the formulation was changed. The active solvent now is 1-nitropropene. I haven't been able to find any use for it. It doesn't work into anything useful directly that I am aware of. Any ideas? I was thinking it might be suited towards the mescaline/2C compounds, but again I am not sure.
For 2C-x and other PEAs all you need is NitoMethane that is both easy to get and easy to prepare.
And any suitable primary amine catalyst.
Then NaBH4 or LiAlH4 or Pd/C for reduction of nitrostyrene to 2C-H.
From that point you have ability to prepare dozens of useful compounds.

Yes, the nitro RC boat fuel is easy to get in quantity on the ebay.
What do you think about using methylamine from hexamine dry fuel?
I think I like Pd/C out of all of them if I had the choice.
I have been thinking about hydrogenation routes lately.

Methylamine for what?
In the absence of any common reducing agents, the easiest way is to use Zn/HCl reduction, for nitrostyrenes it works well.
Although it requires large excess Zn dust, it's accessible and suitable method for small scale preparations.
More efficient way is to reduce double bond with NaBH4 at first, then nitro group with Zn/HCl.
