I would appreciate it if you guys could answer some questions I have about the amalgam reduction.

I'd plan to use methylamine hydrochloride and sodium hydroxide in methanol to produce the methylamjne solution needed. I would like to dry this of all water, as imine formation is very much helped by this

Would silica gel be useful for this? It'd be nice to have something reusable. If this can dry the methanol completely, please let me know.

In addition, I plan to use cut up chunks of aluminum pans instead of aluminum foil. I have read that using thicker aluminum allow the reaction to better target the imine. Does anyone have experience or info using thicker pieces of aluminum.

Ideally, I would like this to be able to be scaled up decently, not quite Walter white level but more than just a 10 liter flask. Thus me asking, trying to figure out things in advance.
