Hey folks,
as the title says, I was thinking about DIY walk in fume hoods.
A fume hood generally is a great addition to a lab, but what about creating a system that extracts and converts all the fumes and air from the lab while guiding it to the same pipes that come from the main extractors placed next to the fume sources?
What I basically mean is adding a 2nd extraction system to the lab, next to the system that's used to extract fumes directly from reactors etc.
On the following pictures it shows a great lab published in a post by the forum administration:
That the room is covered in plastic is great as the lab can be dismantled easily without leaving evidence (e.g. rental apartements) in case of emergency.
Also, a great addition to the above described lab is the water filter (right corner), which should clean out fumes even more.
To make this concept portable and place additional extractor/ventilation systems would make it even more suitable for many people that look for spaces to set-up shop in.
To find permanent places is not only increasing risk, but also very difficult for many, hence why I thought to start this thread here to discuss the idea of fully portable labs.
Here is what I have found online, I think this is amazing as a portable lab that could be placed in a rental for a short period of time:
(above picture: highlight on ceiling fume extractors)
(above picture: highlight on additional moveable fume extractor + non-see-through foil)
I think the only thing missing here would be a strong plastic covering the floor to avoid spilling reactors ruining floors of buildings and leaving evidence.
What are your thoughts on this in terms of safety and generally speaking in terms of functionality as a lab?
Is there maybe something you would add?
Cincerly,
Koko
