Delta 8 from CBD isolate with heptane and PTSA

Equipment needed:

1x jacketed glass reactor
1x heater
1x chiller
1x vacuum pump
1x nutsche filter
1x rotovap

How to:

1) dissolve 1:1 CBD isolate in heptane @ 80C

2) stabilize jacket temp to 50C

3) add 1% of CBD isolate weight in PTSA

4) run reaction for 3,15h after the addition of reagent (If the reaction doesn’t take off (exothermic reaction) at 50c after 10 minutes, bump jacket temp to 60c)

5) cool down to room temp

6) water washes 1:1

2x straight distilled water wash
2x natrium bicarbonate wash
2x salt wash
3x straight distilled water wash

After washes pH should be 7

7) filter heptane thru b80/celite/magsil

8) recover heptane in rotovap

9) distill crude D8 oil under full vacuum

Is it possible to change the reaction conditions and/or the acid used to encourage it to convert in majority to Delta-9?

• Recommend HCl for ∆9 selectivity.
• Solution should be <1 PPM water for best ∆9 selectivity.
• ∆9 turns into ∆8 given the time so stop your reactions when your ∆9:∆8 ratios decrease.
• Run your reactions at -20°C for the least ∆8.
