Psilocybins & Marijuana

Psilocybin is the active compound in psychedelic mushrooms. It`s primarily a serotonin receptor agonist, particularly targeting the 5-HT2A receptor. When psilocybin is ingested, it's converted into psilocin, its active form, which influences mood, cognition, and perception.

Psilocybin induces altered states of consciousness, characterized by changes in mood, sensory perception, time perception, and thought patterns. These effects can be profound, leading to spiritual or introspective experiences, and in a therapeutic setting, it's being explored for treating conditions like depression and PTSD. Psilocybin can cause nausea, headache, increased heart rate, and blood pressure. Psychologically, it can lead to anxiety, paranoia, and hallucinations. In some cases, it might precipitate or exacerbate psychiatric conditions.

Marijuana`s main psychoactive component is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), acts on cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) in the brain. THC mimics the action of anandamide, a naturally occurring neurotransmitter, leading to the modulation of various neurotransmitter systems, including dopamine and GABA.

THC causes relaxation, altered sensory perception, euphoria, increased appetite, and impaired memory and motor coordination. CBD (cannabidiol), another component of cannabis, can have anti-anxiety and antipsychotic effects.

Marijuana can cause dry mouth, red eyes, impaired short-term memory, increased heart rate, anxiety, and paranoia. Chronic use may be associated with motivational disorders and other long-term mental health issues.

Interaction between Psilocybin and Marijuana.

Potential Benefits:
  • Combining these substances can potentially intensify the psychedelic experience, leading to more profound perceptual and cognitive effects.
  • Marijuana may alleviate some of the physical discomforts, like nausea, caused by psilocybin.
However, such a combination can make the experience too intense and is unlikely to be suitable for impressionable people, and those who have little experience with each of the substances separately. Also, this combination is undesirable in the presence of mental disorders and predisposition to them.

The combination might affect serotoninergic and cannabinoid systems in a complex way, potentially altering mood, perception, and cognitive functions. The synergistic effect on sensory perception and cognition can be unpredictable and varies significantly from person to person.

Risks and Side Effects:
  • The combination can lead to heightened sensory distortion and confusion, which might be unsettling or lead to anxiety and paranoia.
  • Psychologically, this combination can be unpredictable, potentially leading to intense, uncomfortable, or distressing experiences.
  • There is a risk of exacerbating or precipitating psychiatric conditions, especially in individuals with a personal or family history of psychosis or other mental health disorders.

The unpredictability of the psychological effects, especially in terms of anxiety, paranoia, and the potential for negative experiences (bad trip), should be carefully considered. As with any substance use, individual reactions can vary greatly, and factors like dosage, environment, and individual psychology play critical roles in the overall experience.

🟢🟡 Given the above, we can carefully state that this combination may be a good idea under certain conditions. This combination requires a lot of experience working with both substances separately, compliance with minimum dosages, rare repetition and a meaningful approach.

Mushroom, truffles tripping must have marijuana involved. In my understanding it just can`t go one without another. I mean psychos with cannabis. But not necessary other way around )) Something like that)

You're talking about private experience. For some, the standard shroom trip will be more than enough. Some people will prefer cannabis psychedelia altogether. It depends on the person, the goals, the individual tolerance, etc.

That`s right, psychedelic experiences can vary widely from person to person and that individual preferences play a significant role in choosing the type of psychedelic substance.

What works well for one person may not be suitable for another, and vice versa.

Important is that we keep open-minded approach to exploring different psychedelic substances and experiences and to use it responsibly and make an educative choice of responsible use of psychedelics, regardless of the substance chosen.

That`s why is very important to keep communication and education about potential risks and benefits associated with different types of psychedelic experiences, as well, very important is to keep value of our diversity in those experiences. Anyone should share personal experiences with different psychedelics, to contribute to the conversation. However, everyone should be aware, that personal experiences are subjective and may not apply universally.

Smoking Marijuana on mushrooms definitely increases the psychedelia but some people find it distasteful literally. Many people who smoke cigarettes also think the taste bad and refrain while tripping.
I've been (un?)lucky enough to experience a lot of people struggling with mushroom trips. It seems like LSD moderates a person's mood to be introspective and calm and mushrooms don't have that affect at all. As a former mushroom farmer for a decade I have found myself elected shaman and trip sitter many times.
Mushrooms are not fun in the traditional sense of drugs. Euphoria is not increased by mushrooms. The species of mushrooms that are psilocybin are not closely related to popular edible species and taste profiles range from " unseasoned pork rinds" to "cat piss on twigs" There are well over100 distinct Genetic species o psychedelic mushrooms on the earth, and that doesn't mean "strains " like penis envy, AA+, golden teachers, Texans, Malabar ect. These are all psilocybe cubensis. The International board of taxonomic Nomenclature doesn't recognize strains of mushrooms, or formaldehyde (forms) the lowest recognized category is subspecies. 95% of all psychedelic mushrooms sold on Earth are Psilocybe cubensis, rarely a person might offer the sclerotia of Psilocybe Mexicana ( including strains Atlantis #7, tampanensis ect) or panaeolus tropical is or Panaeokus cyanescens which tend to be small and slender but exceptionally potent. Beyond a doubt though, the most oitent magic mushrooms are decomposes of wood. Psilocybe azurescens, cyanescens and others have tested 2% w/w active alkaloids (20mg/g) in dried specimens. For this reason you should only deal with knowledgeable people who you trust. 5 grams of a cubensis is a powerful trip but 5 grams of some wood-lovers would be absolutely paralyzing.

5 grams is a serious dosage. Especially if we are talking about a combination with cannabis (the topic is dedicated to this). I would target people without experience at a maximum of 2 grams. This is an average dose (not a small one) for most scenarios involving psilocybin mushrooms.

I was only paying homage to Shulgan with the 5 gram remark. I've always called 5 grams "the whole ride" because any more and you probably won't remember what happened. Once I took 5 grams of the local wood -loving species. Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata and after puking and shitting my brains out at the same time I passed out for 3 hours and was catatonic and none responsive to outside stimulus. That's some serious effects! That was near the end of my enjoyment of mushrooms. I took them a couple times after that but I don't recall enjoying them.
