A research paper oxidizes some alpha beta unsaturated ketones to vinyl acetates, and the amount of solvent used is alot due to them doing it on such a small scale. here is the method;
ie 0.5 mmol to 0.35 mol. or 50ml of ketone?
What ratio would you imagine would be appropriate with regards to ketone to dimethyl formamide in scaling this up 700 times.α,β-Unsaturated ketone 1 (0.5 mmol) was dissolved in dry DMF (1.0 mL), in a closed-capped
tube under nitrogen atmosphere, before Oxone® (amount stated in Table 3) was added neat to
the former solution. The course of the reaction was carefully followed by TLC. With the
depletion of the starting material the reaction mixture was filtered through celite® and washed
with toluene (ca. 15 mL). The organic liquors were evaporated under reduced pressure and the
resulting crude material was filtered through a small plug of silica gel (hexane/EtOAc) to afford
vinyl acetates 3 as analytically pure compounds.
