catalytic hydrogenation of nitromethane yields?

If one were to reduce nitromethane via catalytic hydrogenation would it be similar in yield to that of al/hg? Like 20ml of the stuff would be enough to process 25 grams of ketone?

Is it an equimolar amount that's produced?

While I'm at it, how many times can palliduim on carbon generally be used? I'm trying to advance from mercury salts, tried NaBh4 didn't like the yields... thanks!

25g nitromethane for 25g MDP2P, for example. It will be a triple excess. Perhaps enough for Al/Hg reduction. Equimolar ratio is not enough for this reaction. If you want to try catalytic hydrogenation, do you have access to gaseous hydrogen and buy catalysts?

William DampierYes I have access to palliduim on carbon 10%, for less than $15 a gram. I'm sure I can get hydrogen at the local gas shop!

You think it would be better to use adams catalyst or Pd/C? Would it work in one step for MDP2P+ nitromethane?

Also, I’ve read that catalytic hydrogenation of nitromethane gives low yields… I’m curious about this, because I can get nitromethane, but not methylamine… so this would be excellent…
