During the methylamination process, is it better to leave the container open or closed so that the fumes do not escape?

I have doubts to know if during the methylamination process it is more effective to close the container so that the fumes do not escape or to leave the container open.
Thank you all!! ;)

It's an alkylation technically and the answer depends on a lot of variables. Are you liberating ammonia gas from a compound? Are you trying to alkkylate a cyclic ring? N alkylate acarbon chain? Alpha alkalate an amine? Is it a Suzuki coupling, Friedel-crafts, menshutkin reaction, hydroamination, free-radical....? Thiol-ene, Williamson ether synth, cross coupling? 😆

Frit Buchneris the methylamination with methylamine 40% aqueous solution of the precursor CAS 52190-28-0.

antraxHe was kidding you a little :D

I would advise closing it, generally do not leave containers of your chemicals open after you are done handling them.
If it is difficult to poure the Methylamine it helps to cool it before

After reading https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlehtml/2021/ob/d0ob02098b
The catalyst in this reaction appears to be oxygen. If the reaction sequence you are contemplating includes hydrogen peroxide than my feeling is that it definitely should be closed. If the process doesn't include a peroxide or r some other source of oxygen than it would eventually become depleted and more introduced via opening the vessel. I know there is more than one scheme for this reaction, so I didn't look them up. Also I've never even done a reaction I just like to talk about it 🙃 😅
