Hey guys. I need help very much. I made the Hofmann with snow-white amide. After heating part, I extracted with toluene, then washed with hcl/water, then with water again, combined the waters and let it evaporate. After evaporate there aren’t any crystals, just a brown oil came out. ( it looks like freebase - but it’s not ) I checked the ph of acid water and it’s ph2, so it should be fine.
I used Nadcc and bleach. Next time I will try tcca.
I used many different ways. I also used that way to just extract amine with dcm, evap the dcm, add Aceton and hcl, but the way with just wash with acid water seems better for me. What’s going wrong there?
