Hello, I'm having a problem with crystallization.

We tried three methods:

1. We mixed a-PVP flour with alcohol (1 ml of alcohol per 1 g of a-PVP) and put it in the freezer, but after 48 hours, nothing precipitated.

2. We made a solution of 100 g of a-PVP, 70 ml of alcohol, and 30 ml of water and left it at room temperature, but after 24 hours, nothing precipitated.

3. We bought vodka and made a solution of 1 ml of a-PVP per 1 g of flour, but nothing precipitated.

What could be the problem? Please help.

Hey man. I have problems also..
First batch i totally freestyled my non experienced ass with mixture of a-pvp flour, acetone-> heat, NAOH (solid) and at last peroxide witch gave me picture one..

After finding this amazing website and reading your post got me thinking that i did something wrong.
There is another thread about this subject but i cant make anything english out of it. So i hope we will get quick response on how to crystalize a-pvp with just pots and pans and a life WITHOUT hci cus i cant seem to find that in the netherlands.

Regards retlep

Ps. my great respect for the initiators of this educational platform!!

So I would not add peroxide to the APVP, because I don't see a chemically reasonable way how it would make the product crystallize and it also can destroy the product in fact. Since you said you can't get HCl, you can use almost any other acid, but you will need some acid that has a pKa under 3-4. NaOH is counterproductive, it will raise the pH. What you need to do is get the pH to 5 or lower (commonly 3-5). I assume you have the freebase currently, just basically add any acid to it that has a low pKa, favorably mineral acids, you can DM me if you want to ask about whether a specific acid would work.

Also about the precipitation issues, it is quite common, APVP salts are very soluble in water, because of this I would for beginners recommend evaporating all the solvent, this takes long, but rarely goes wrong.

Also with the APVP flour, do you mean APVP that is powder already? Because if it is powder, then you don't need to do the step with the acid, because it has already been done, otherwise it wouldn't be a powder.

If this all is about purifying existing APVP powder, I recommend doing a wash with chilled acetone instead. It is important to keep the acetone chilled, otherwise you will loose a lot o product.

Im sorry the answers are also partly on my reaction.. excuse me for that!
I f*cked so much with my a-pvp powder that i dont know witch state it is in right now...
I have zero experience and tried to get crystals out of it by selfstudy an failure i did farm a crystal from it and it is smoke able.
I haven't got a clue how i did that and i lost maybe 250 g of powder..
Hard lessons been learned.
Im waiting on a new batch of mdhp granules. I wil try to ash that with ice cold acetone! I will share my experiments here.
My goal is learnjng to make mdhp or "monkey dust"
