Perhaps, you have never exposed your stuff on heat for long time as author does. Albeit, is important step to remove ketone leftovers.

ByHydeTook too long is vague but obviously it depends on wind blowing on the pipe, ambient air temperature and humidity, atmospheric pressure and other factors. In the Analytical Chemistry sub of this site, is a scheme for performing a melt test. This is a meaningful test because it has metrics (meth melts at about 165-167°C.) if it is higher or lower by very much it points to an unfinished reaction or an extremely dirty product.
