En noget enklere mulighed for at producere methylamin ville være at reducere nitromethan CH3NO2 til methylamin CH3NH2 via Al/Hg-amalgam.

CH3NO2 + H2 ---> CH3NH2+ H2O

Jeg føler, at der er en grund til det, for det er almindeligt at bruge modelflybrændstof til at lave methylamin in vitro... enten nedbrydes det hurtigt, eller... det lyder som en energisk reaktion.

I made the synthesis with a last minute decision in 3 lt capacity. The yield was good, I got 270 grams.
