I see methylamine is shipped as a salt, as a solution, and even as a compressed gas.

It looks to me like a salt or a compressed gas container are the most efficient way to ship the chemical, as the solution is extra water weight.

Is the gas or salt more efficient use of space and shipping?

i'd go with compressed gas. it's more stable than the solution and it readily soluble in water so it can go right back to being a solution, which afaik is usually used in synths.

the benefit of the gas is that you don't have to have it in water, which is not conducive to some chemistry, and it doesn't have to be converted like the salt does. As I recall the maximum concentration in wter is 50%, so yes hailing shipping carrying 50% water isn't very efficient. The compressed gas will have to have a pressure cylender, which weighs a lot to ship around, also acid salts are generally more stable than bases, so so far as ease of transport goes, teh methylammonium chloride is the winner
