É possível: Sim
Vale a pena? De modo algum.
Os agentes de metilação são geralmente coisas desagradáveis, só isso já é razão suficiente.

Methcathinone can be methylated using Methyl Iodide and Aluminum Chloride AlCl3 to get 3-MMC (3-Methylmethcathinone). The ketone part of the Methcathinone means no 2 or 4 substitution, but it directs it to the 3 substitution.

The question was different. To insert the methyl into an aromatic ring. It seems that there are methods to benzene halogenation, but I don't think that this is needed for someone.

I thought Ephedrone was Methcathinone (MC). It can be Methylated to 3-MMC, but not 4-MMC or 2-MMC.

I've heard that methyl iodide can be used to synthesize 3-MMC from methcathinone. Is this accurate? I also came across claims that formaldehyde and formic acid can be used for the same purpose, but I’m skeptical. From what I understand, formaldehyde and formic acid are typically used to add a methyl group to the amine portion of a molecule, such as in the synthesis of methamphetamine from amphetamine or MDMA from MDA. However, they wouldn’t be able to methylate the aromatic ring, correct?
