Rah I made this post such a long time ago now….and iv still done nothing about this situation hah

I was literally thinking the other day I would like to get some vacuum grease - it’s just rare that I do vacuum distillations to be honest. I try and avoid it because the noise of the pump - although I suppose my water circulator isn’t so bad now.

That chapstick idea is a cracking one - or the candle idea isn’t half bad either. I actually haven't encountered my joints getting stuck so far (now that I have said that; I am almost certain it will happen though!)

I will at minimum get some ptfe tape and some chapstick though!

honestly getting joints unstuck isnt so hard anyways just heat the joint slowly while pulling and rotating a little

Yeah iv never even had it happen but I figured the grease would be good for a specific vacuum distillation. I’m gonna need all the vacuum I can get tbh and it was cheap so yeah. Justified lol

If you want to find out if it fits well together and nothing leaks, in many cases you can use ph paper

I think I've only broke one buchner funnelm or 2 from a stuck joint. For me, it works best to get the joint wet and stick it in the freezer. Then the water freezes it pushes them apart. A more common problem Ive fave is breaking seperatoru funnels with a stuck petcocck. Never buy a petcocck with a glass youlk. I've never broken a ptfe one, but the glass ground valve, i've beeen through a few
