Acylation of Morphine Question

So I've read that one can produce 6 MAM from glacial acetic acid, and catalytic amounts of sulfuric acid.

Does this work?

Also, does this work for other acids? Like propionic acid?

Hi Katty,

to answer your first question, yes it does although acetyl chloride is preferred with a Pd catalyst.
Propionic acid however requires diffrent circumstances in order to react.

I was told you could just substitute acetic anhydride with GAA and get mostly 6 MAM. Do you have any resources that show you need a catalyst for it?

It's been consistently reported as needing one, but im following up with someone and it looks like it isn't necessary. Trying to sort out what is and isnt.

Hello, i'have tested and it don't seem to work ,with gaa alone and with sulfuric acid catalyst too, you must have anhydride
