APAAN Synthesis Question

Using this as a guide, can anyone tell me if having the reaction mixture sit overnight is necessary?

Does the APAAN really need to sit that long, or can one react for the suggested two hours, then extract once things cool down a bit?

I'll double check on those pages, but it still seems like it requires a day to either react or "settle". Why is this?

After the reaction between benzyl cyanide and sodium methoxide, the guide on here states it is recommended to let the reaction sit overnight.

I don't know for sure. Probably, for a complete reaction.
