How do you make aqueous methylamine?
is this how to do it?
Take methylamine hydrochloride salt then dissolve it in an appropriate amount of water, then cool the solution to around 5* C and you add enough (pre-cooled) dilute NaOH(aq) to create aqueous methylamine freebase in solution with NaCl
how do you calculate the amount of methylamine hcl and water used? how much dilute naoh is required?
can somebody post an example for a 200ml 40% solution of aqueuos methylamine,

i feel we need a clear description of this procedure as most of us probably cannot get 40% aqueuos methylamine, can only get methylamine hcl.

60% of the solution will be water. the formula for this is "mass of water = (60/100) * the total mass of the solution"

calculate the moles of the methylamine hcl. the ratio should be 1:1, so you need the same amount of moles of methylamine as you do NaOH. convert the moles to mass and thats the amount you need. here is a calculator for conversion but you can look up a different one if you want ^_^

dissolve the methylamine hcl in the water, then cool, then add the cooled NaOH solution

fidelisMost people say that with this method we cannot get a 40% concentration of free base solution. Do you have any personal experience with this? If you have tried it and had a good result, can you give an example recipe? I need it to make calculations. Thanks.

idk if im wrong cuz i thought chemistry formulas were pretty much set in stone. hopefully im correct. if not, thats okay, i can keep tryna look if one of u guys still need it @rampage ^_^

i dont wanna be the reason someones product is bunk or worse, the reason someones lab goes boom ^^;
