The accused arrived at Heathrow Airport on a flight from Bangkok / Legal imbalances over this drug cause a huge increase in international smuggling
The National Crime Agency (NCA) has charged a Leeds man with drug dealing after five suitcases full of cannabis were found at Heathrow Airport. Nathaniel Benson, 45, arrived at the airport on Wednesday, September 18, having flown from Bangkok in Thailand. The one in the Asian country is one of the main marijuana routes to the United Kingdom next to the one in the United States. The imbalance in the legal framework between some and other countries causes a large increase in this type of crime.
The suspect was arrested after Border Force officers located 160 packages in the suitcases. His two children were traveling with him and one of the bags was checked in the name of one of them. In total more than 100 kilos of cannabis were recovered, the street value of which would have been around £1 million if it had been sold on the streets of the UK.
After being questioned by NCA investigators, Benson was charged with importing class B drugs. A 41-year-old woman from Harrogate, who was travelling with him, was also arrested but was later released on bail.
