Bromination Question

I would like to brominate ketones, like propiophenone, 4 methyl propiophenone, the like.

What concentration of hydrogen peroxide is too low? I can get 12% H2O2 at the local hardware store.

I can also get oxone, which is useful too, so it's not totally a lost cause if 12% doesn't work

It does work. You need to use 1 mole of h2o2 (remember that you do have 12% when calculating) for 1 mole of hbr and 1 MOLE OF 4MP *
It can be in excess, it will self decompose in the temperature.

4MP rarely exceeds 95% so be careful becasuse in theory it contains 1 mole in 1 mole but if its 95% its 0.95 mole, so hbr must be 0.95 mole as well
