Hi,

I thought I would share a great life hack, that is very suitable for our community as "Homre Brewing Chemists".

This is very outside the box of thinking, but did you know that there are flowers that actually absorb alot of chemical smells that we work with on a daily basis?

Here are 10 flowers that you could invest in to help you with the smells that comes out of you syntheses and are very alluring too look at at the same time.

1. Peace Lily / Spathiphyllum wallisii
PEace Lily is an effective air purifier as it cleans the air from benzene, formaldehyde, trichlorethylene, xylene, toluene, acetone, alcohol and ammonia. Unfortunately, it is toxic to cats, so if you have one at home you should avoid these!

2. Boston fern / TNephrolepis exaltata
This plant has a good ability to reduce the formaldehyde content in the air at home! Therefore, it can be good to place such a bushy fern in the window.

3. Orchid / Phalaenopsis sanderana

Not only is it incredibly beautiful to look at, it also has cleansing properties! It cleans the air of Xylene/Toluene are aromatic hydrocarbons that can be emitted into the air by e.g. glues, paints, solvents and flame retardants.

4. Dumb Cane / Dieffenbachia seguine
Clears the air of Xylene and Toluene just like the bride orchid. Prickly pear leaves have highly irritating plant sap, which if it gets on/in the skin and eyes can cause irritation and swelling, as well as blisters in the mouth, temporary paralysis of the tongue, breathing problems and stomach problems. Handle the plant carefully, and never leave it accessible to children or animals!

5. Weeping Fig / Ficus benjamina
Purifies the air from benzene, formaldehyde, Xylene/Toluene and also acts as a humidifier, perfect in the bedroom for a higher humidity when you sleep - suddenly you will wake up with more hydrated skin!

6. Areca Palm / Dypsis lutescens
Gold palm acts as a humidifier and cleans the air of toxins. It does not need to be in direct sunlight but needs a lot of light, so preferably do not place it against a wall or in a corner.

7. Devil's Ivy / Epipremnum aureum

Golden creeper removes benzene and carbon monoxide from the air, which is a good reason to put one in the bedroom, so you get enough oxygen while you sleep. In addition, some studies have found that the plant can help eliminate unwanted odors.

8. Spider Plant / Chlorophytum comosum
Ampellilia is an easy-care plant that is good to have at home for people who are sensitive to scents and allergy sufferers. It is good for air purification because it binds formaldehyde from the air.

9. The Snake Plant / Dracaena trifasciata

Purifies the air from benzene, formaldehyde and trichlorethylene emitted from plastics, paints and cleaning agents. Mother-in-law's tongue also absorbs carbon dioxide from the air.

10. Jade Plant / Crassula ovata
This plant takes in carbon dioxide from the air and releases oxygen at night. Feel free to place it in the bedroom!

Best Regards
