Followed Chromic's guide for the first time, Started with GABA + H2O + NaNO2, then added HCl slowly.
The rxn was kept in an ice water bath. At the end of the acid addition, the solution was yellow but clear, and had and still has a strange smell — not sure but probably it's a butyric acid smell.
Is this normal? it is now in the fridge for the next 24-36 hours to complete the rxn.
Because I don't have a way to check pH I thought of adding NaHCO3 bit by bit until no more bubbles appear, then to add NaCl until saturation and extract with Ethyl Acetate.
NOTE: My goal is to achieve GBL and NOT NaGHB.
