Yes. Tails in it self on a thumb drive should be good enough. But I like your setup ;)

The virtual machine compromises your security because you have to consider the host operating system. You would be safer with just tails.

Agree that VM is unnecessary, just use Tails. If you can also try out Qubes and Whonix.

If your talking about PC then I would suggest not to use a VM just either install tails or whonix on a thumb drive as mentioned earlier.

If your surfing DW from your mobile then I would suggest getting a Google pixel and installing GrapheneOS the 3 chat messenger apps I would say that are kind of safe to use are session, Atox and xabber with OTR plug in. These all offer end to end encryption

You are safe :) As you're using Tails you can also skip the VM, you would also not require an additional VPN IMO

Using a public hotspot can add an extra layer of anonymity, and combining it with a virtual machine, Tails, and Tor certainly helps in maintaining privacy. However, it's important to remember that no system is entirely foolproof. Make sure you're also practicing good browsing habits, like avoiding suspicious links and using strong, unique passwords. Additionally, keeping your software up-to-date is crucial for patching any potential vulnerabilities. Overall, it seems like you're on the right track, but always stay vigilant and keep up with best practices for online security.

I think that the virtual machine can be skipped if you are using tails, but remember to use a good VPN befor access to Tor, i can reccomand you Mullvad VPN, it works great! Your set up is good but as @HarryGrady already said it's fondamental to have exelent browsing habits. I can just add that using two differents computer, one for your normal life and one for the shady things can be a really good idea :)
