Are there any other Lewis acids that can be used to synthesize 4mmc from toluene?

Aluminum chloride is hard to obtain for me.

Yes, for example Iron chloride (FeCl3) and zinc chloride (ZnCl3) but the reaction will happen at a slower rate compared to using aluminium chloride.

The zinc and iron chlorides are anhydrous?

Which of those two give the faster reaction?

in this synthesis I only have a heater balloon mixer can I not use a water bath and how many degrees should not exceed when we add propinol chloride

This synthesis is AlCl3.6H2O, can I use this as a catalyst?

I'm pretty sure it has to be anhydrous aluminum chloride.

No water, whatsoever. Issue is you can't dry aluminum chloride by heating it, iirc.

Double check this though

**Propionyl Chloride (CH₃CH₂COCl):**

* Molar mass: 109.5 g/mol
* Number of moles: 1000 g / 109.5 g/mol ≈ 9.13 mol

Toluene (C₇H₈):** **2.

* Molar mass: 92 g/mol
* Density (25°C): ≈ 0.87 g/mL
* Mass: 3000 mL * 0.87 g/mL = 2610 g
* Number of moles: 2610 g / 92 g/mol ≈ 28.4 mol

**Aluminum Chloride (AlCl₃):**3.

* Molar mass: 133.5 g/mol
* Number of moles: 1500 g / 133.5 g/mol ≈ 11.2 mol

**Mole Ratios:**

Now, let's determine the mole ratios by proportioning the mole numbers to each other. Let's ratio according to the smallest number of moles (here propionyl chloride):

** **Propionyl Chloride : Toluene : AlCl₃**
* **9.13 mol : 28.4 mol : 11.2 mol**
* **Molar ratios - 1 : 3.11 : 1.23**

This implies a ratio of approximately 1:3:1.
