Normally I crystallize "stuff" in oversaturated water solution, and crystallization takes around 48 hours. I allways control exact weight of "stuff", solution and water. It means, when crystals are ready, final yeld, including the yeld from water leftovers fits with initial "stuff" weight minus 2-4%.

But, luckily in very rare cases, I meet the situation when water is trapped in the crystals.

Like a couple of days ago I crystallized small batch as 100 gr of MDMA HCL. At the first glimp, all the details of the process are thee same as usually.

The same location, the same temperature mode, it looks all are the same. But, when I thrown the liquid to crystallizer, the process started immediately. I checked the crystallizer after 15 minutes, and saw pretty unusual situation, when the bottom of crystallizer is covered with hundreds of tiny crystal nuclears: normally in the same situation I see much much less nuclears.

Then, as 24 hours gone, I found the crystals completely dry, and final yeld crystals is 107 gr against initial 100 gr.
That means about 7 gr of water (or 7% of initial weight) are trapped inside the crystals. Also the size of crystals is much smaller than usually.

As I said at the beginning, all the details of the process are thee same as usually. Purity probably shall be OK, considering color. So I don't see any obvious reason for such difference. May be someone with better knowledge than me, can explain it?

Water trapped in the crystals?I dont think so.
Anyway you can check it putting them in the freezer.
I guess other explanation will be suitable with that case I dont think water trapped will be.

Normally I keep a batch of powder, and crystallize it on demand. I mean from the same batch of powder I get normal crystals, and such watery crystals. So it is not about impurities, that's for sure.
But it doesn't happen often, may be 2-3 times.
May be air was too dry during that days, i don't know???

Put them in freezer to be sure that is water.
