Ephedrine/Pseudo is being reduced into methamphetamine (Philopon?)
Iodine is oxidized or hydrolyzed into HI, which does the reducing.
Red P is the catalyst.
I'm also not a chemist so I could be wrong.

Iodine is Oxidized ? Are you sure ? For what I know Oxidation means that the element lose an electron ... And in this case Iodine forms a polar covalent bond with hydrogen(and iodine is more elctronegative so almost gain an elctrone from Hydrogen) in the formation of HI ...
