Barbiturates are generally Depressant drug used to help sleep, relieve anxiety and muscle spasms, prevent seizures. With some Prescribed names as Fiorina, Pentothal, Seconal, or Nembutal.

They also induce the cytochromes P450 in a very strong manner so most other psychoactives (and not only) will be urgently inactivated by the liver before little to no effect can be observed from even actually dangerous doses... do you want that? From quite a vast self experimentation with them (also some extinct ones) I may suggest they aren't worth any attention just maybe to know for the sake of knowing. Sodium thiopental is one exception which I also didn't get the chance of trying since it's only at the anesthesiologyst's reach (and they say it's used sparingly since it isn't easy for them to get also). Another thing common to all barbiturates is their very low therapeutic index which means that the lethal dose is too close to the effective (therapeutical) one. They are obtained from 2 substituted or 2,2 disubstituted malonic acid (or their esters) by condensation with urea in anhydrous reaction conditions. Hope this was helpful enough. Cheers.

But this days especially the pentobarbital, is used in some prisons too as injectable terminal drugs , which some people consider as a peaceful way of exit or method of exit .
Most often it's also used to suffering euthanize animals like dogs ,cats etc.

CarldeanI heard the same here in Eastern Europe about phenobarbital overdose used as animal euthanasia agent before it went extinct and now there is a modern chemical used for that exact purpose.

Aloysyou need the 2-substituted or 2,2-disubstituted malonic (1,3-propanedioic) acid to condense with urea (or thiourea in the case of thiopental) to form a pyrimidine trione also known as barbituric acid (simple barbituric acid is inactive)

AloysI hope nobody finds this offensive on a second thought... chemistry is to be explored no matter what so if barbiturates are your driving force go for it (I also remember the synthesis of barbituric acid on youtube I wonder if it's still there)

Certainly I'd not encourage production, distribution or selling of barbs on any public scene where the young generation is used to bomb countless of RC benzos and end up, if not going to tragic way of be taken to the hospital, in benzo blast for several day and not even remembering what they did with a total blackout.

Now imagine a vendor or RC shop putting a new barbs RC, that for a huge miracle is not mutagenic or toxic (since the chances of minting one out going blind, but even if made with some more serious approach based on pharmacology "on paper", not really predictable, are very high) added to category "sedatives". The scenario above won't probably even happen, at the second or third drop thinking "worst case i'll just go benzoblast or passing out", they would probably fall asleep forever.

Still, is laughable to think barbs are called "sedatives"; when there are some specific ones, where the on-set for the first 20 mins gives a rush even stronger than best of cocaine and amph, before switching to the other phases or proper nirvana.
Anyway, don't do barbs (even because you won't find probably any, if not phenobarbital, that is junk as recreational value, and pentobarbital, that is neither something worth taking risk).

And, avoid as well all junk sold as RC from chinese claiming to be another well-known vintage class still hunt after half century..and proposed with few analogues that even a search on wikipedia will tell you it's mutagenic and neurotoxic - or giving convulsion and spams at low dosages - or being totally worthless as effects.
