Powder a-PVP is crystallized in a solvent in the proportion of 1g per 0.5-1 ml. The solvent is prepared from water and alcohol in the ratio of 30/70, 50/50, 70/30. It is very important to use well-purified a-PVP powder, a dirty product can make crystallization difficult. After dissolving a-PVP, the solution is brought to a boil and poured into containers, the larger the layer of solution, the coarser the crystal fraction. The crystal grows under stable conditions, the procedure is very sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity. It is best to use a room with dry air (relative humidity <40%) and a stable temperature of 20-22 ºC.
If more than 50% of the liquid has evaporated, there should be a large mass of a-PVP crystals in solution in the container. To accelerate the crystallization process, gradual cooling is applied, decreasing the temperature by 2 degrees every hour (from +20 ºC to -20 ºC). If there is no possibility of gradual cooling, place in refrigerator T ~ (4 ºC) for 8-12 hours, then for 8-12 hours in a freezer ~ (-20 ºC) depending on conditions.
The obtained wet crystals are dried in a desiccator or by infrared radiation (IR lamp or IR heater).

Crystals of a-PVP are dyed well with food dyes. Before a-PVP is dissolved, a small amount of food coloring is added to the solution of water and alcohol, but it is important not to add too much food coloring, so as not to spoil the appearance of the crystals.
