Extracting Pseudoephedrine from Levocetirizine Tablets: Seeking Guidance and Advice

I have tablets containing levocetirizine hydrochloride 5 mg, sustained-release pseudoephedrine hydrochloride 120 mg, and ferric oxide.

I have a specific query:

I'm looking for guidance on extracting pseudoephedrine from this particular composition.

In years gone by, a long standing joke in circles of Harley owners and people with no teeth, was about a cook so green that they can only make "smurf dope" Smurf dope, you probably guessed, is blue. It's the result of reducing antihistamines that one didn't extract from the pills before trying to cook them. The cure to Smurf dope ( how you get the antihistamine out of the mixture) was to use chlorinated brake cleaner. Trichloroethylene or some such. It's the same thing they are still selling at AutoZone or Walmart today. I haven't looked hard. But I assume it dissolves the antihistamine or it dissolves the pseudoephedrine. Then the 2 chemicals can be separated by filtration.

So says the gang at THE HIVE. It took a lot of searching to find that answer 10 years ago, but you can cross reference there. Probably best search term is "smurf dope" That's definately the chemical they say, I've never attempted such as plain pseudo is in every pharmacy here

hey mate, i have searched the hive for the last 3 hrs and i cannot find reference to Trichloroethylene being used to exract the antihistamine or the psuedo. theres mention of Trichloroethylene as a solvent but not any use, ive searched smurf dope and the copious amounts of reference of it but to no avail, im tired now

This solvin OD tablets are sustain release. It is impossible to extract pseudoephedrine from this tablet dye to polymer coatings.

I used carby cleaner has alot of tolulene some acetone a bunch of others. Not sure % yield but most of e comes out pretty dam clean
