I TRIED MY MAKING 2-IODO-4MP FIRST TIME EXACTLY AS THE GIVEN RECEPIE IN THE VEDIO ON FORUM IT STARTED OUT AS EXPECTED I ADDING ALL INGREDIENTS AS MENTIONED I GOT SAME LOOKING RM PITCH RED BLACK BROWN BUT WHEN I LEFT IT AND CAME AFTER 6 HOURS THE COLOURS WAS CHANGED TO LIGHT BROWN LIKE COFFEE HOW DID IT HAPPEN CAN SOMEBODY HELP I BOUGHT THE REAGENTS FOR VERY HEFTY PRICE FOR THE FIRST TRY AND IT FAILED CAN SOMEBODY TELL WHY I AM ATTACHING A PHOTO THE IODONE COLOUR IS GONE @Novator @G.Patton pls help experts

Can you apply pictures of your reaction mixture?

step by step first added 4mp as given quantity second added ipa as given third added cup as given and after that I added iodine as given everything was looking right as in the VEDIO

Have you added CuO as said in tutorial?

IT AND CAME AFTER 6 HOURS THE COLOURS WAS CHANGED TO LIGHT BROWN LIKE COFFEE

If you read this tutorial, you should know that you have to heat and stir reaction mixture not less than 15h (not 6).

The reaction mixture is heated to 70 °C, then reaction is left for 24 h with a constant stirring and heating.

Have you got such suspension in your reaction mixture?

G.PattonNo I didn't look like this ..I know I have to heat and stir for 15 hrs and also I did stir it for 17+ hours but what I was saying is in the start when I started everything the Rm looked same as in VEDIO but after 6 hours passed when I came to check the colour of RM bacame light brown unlike in the VEDIO also after 17+ hours the mixture didn't look like the one in VEDIO

@G.Patton exactly I was thinking the same I acquires two samples from two different local vendors one was dark yellow other was pure white. The white one smelled very good the yellow one was bitter smelling I tried that with the yellow one first and the reaction failed and now I am trying with the white one letss see what happens . As far as I know the reaction not so hard to perform right. I also tried with hbr on the yellow one when I added hydrogen peroxide it turned red then yellow but after follow exactly same method as shown in vedio it still didn't percipitate even after 24 hours of stirring

INDIANELK2You shouldn't try your reagent's taste. It won't help you determine its quality, just poison you and help to get cancer. Check its melting point, man. Easy method to check.

Yes sir @G.Patton
1) first I added 100 gram of 4 mp in a 3000ml triple neck flask equipped with overhead stirrer and reflux condenser .third neck was closed . in water bath which was approx 60-65°c
2)second I added IPA 1000 ml .
3) third I added 54 grams of CUO in small portions to let it mix properly(took about 30 min)
4)then I added GRANULAR IODINE 130 gram in several portions (in about 30 min time)
5) then I let it all stir at 60-70° for about 20 hours the colour became light then I panicked and thought the iodine vapourised so I added 30 more grams of iodine .then let it stir again for 7 hours .total 27+ hours
6) then I switched everything off and let the mixture settle then decanted it in a flask (some copper came along in the RM ) I covered it and left it for 10 hours at room temperature then came and saw iodoketone forming on the black copper.
7) iodoketone was forming around the copper particles .I was worried
8) Marvin suggested to heat the mass to melt the ketone without boiling so I did it same .heated the whole mass with copper to 40-50 degrees all the iodoketone melted in about 15-20 minutes .then let it settle .then decanted the RM carefully without letting any copper in .colled the RM to room temperature iodoketone started forming again then I covered and kept in freezer in 12 hours there was more iodoketone than before .
