I tried 5 times using exact measurements and steps but never got the whitish precipitation mentioned after adding h2o2. Seems 76ml hbr was not Enough. Would it be better to use 125 ml hbr47 instead of the 76ml mentioned? How long does the precipitaion take as per the above method? Any guesses or advise?

There is no mention of stirring, time taken and bottle open or capped.

Is the mixture almost colorless at this stage or do I have any visua clue like a thick brown ring at the top like in my image?

What is the target ph at this stage before methyl added.
Quantity of hbr47, h2o2 fir 50 ml 4mp?

After shaking hiw long to keep it still not shaken for precipitation?

I am telling you from my experience which I have learnt from my mistakes.

And the quantity which I use.

1:0.7:0.3

4mpp 50g
hbr 48% 35g
h2o2 50% 15g

This is what I use.

I stir 4mpp and hbr 48% for 10 minutes.

Mix temp 22degree, as per room temp.

Then I add it drop wise. After 1-2 drops red colour starts appearing and I keep stirring it till it becomes a nice white colour.

Then I add h2o2 little by little from back. After adding H2O2 the temperature of the mixture increases but if I add a small quantity then the temperature does not increase much. The maximum temperature range is 50 degrees, I make sure that the temperature does not go above that.
And I make it in an airtight bottle or flask only.
It takes me 2-3 hours to add H2O2.
Then I leave it stirring for 14-15 hours.

Did you mean 35ml hbr48 and 15ml h2o2 or did you add by weight in grams?

By air tight bottle did u mean after adding the entire h2o2 u capped it?

14 to 15 hours seems too long...any experts care to clarify?

You can additionally rinse with water and a soda solution. In exactly this order. This can speed up the crystallization process if it does not happen right away. And remove excess acid.

I was going by he post saying add h202 until red clud forms and all h202 was added, this might be my rookie mistake. What is target ph ag this stage once the mentioned amount of h2o2 is added. If i use 50ml 4mp , how much hbr47 and h202 would be needed?

You can add an excess of acid now and stir it (so that the process goes faster), but do not add more peroxide.

The post says ad entire h2o2 and wait for layer separation and whitish sedimentation, which never occurred, perhaps hbr too less posted and I may have added a litle. Excess h2o2 ro get the upper red cloud.

After all h2o2 is added and bottle shaken, is the mix still supposed to be colorless?,

Measure 35% hydrogen peroxide with a syringe (we will need ~29mL in total) and add it drop by drop to our mixture. In the process of addition, red bromine appears.
After adding 1-3 drops, shake the "Voss" bottle until the red color disappears. We repeat this until all the peroxide has been added and the mixture becomes discolored when shaking the bottle

Post say this.

If you add h2o2 all at one time bromine can’t be form with 4mpp well.

with hbr need h2o2 drip wise and shake until mixture become discolour.

If you add all the peroxide at once, there is a chance that the reaction mixture will boil and jump out. In addition, dibromo derivatives may form when overheated.

Rinse with water and baking soda solution, or wait longer. Either way, it will work. Crystallization sometimes takes a long time sometimes it is instant. But if it has become difficult to wait, do a wash.

I did few drops at a time , just saying after all h2o2 was added, not all at once. Seeing te image I shared ...will it lead to precipitation you think if it was left alone 10 or more hours?
