Patton may I ask, in the second method with ethanol, is the substance placed in the four-quart heat-resistant glass pot in the second step the ephedra powder or the mush set aside in the first step?

Hello, there is talking about mush set aside from the first step. It is the second extraction.

I followed your instructions step by step for the first part, but after the alcohol evaporated, I didn't see any white powder. Instead, there was only black oil, and it had a particularly unpleasant odor.

However, during the evaporation of alcohol, I used heating at around 50°C and directed a fan towards the solution to accelerate evaporation. Would this have any impact?

Are you sure that you extract exactly this plant? Heating doesn't influence on this. Probably, this oil contain ephedrine, which have to be extracted and purified by addition manipulations.

@G.Paton I appreciate your post! Two questions for ya:

1) do you know if western USA ephedra aka “morman tea” is a viable variety to extract e from?

2) just to verify, in simple method you; (condensed directions) extract starting material EtHO> do the naphtha pretreatment > do second EtHO extraction>combine extracts>evap collect fb.
So we don’t add alkyl to rxm?

Hello my friend, I was able to get the plant, the plant is dried, does it contain ephedrine? I have questions about the second extraction. Why is the work not finished in the first stage? Is the reason for the second stage taking more ephedrine? What is the reason for sponge cake? Can not evaporate?

I'm from China and I can easily get ephedra. Can I extract ephedrine by Soxhlet extraction?

This is pretty nifty if it works, the reagent they use as a surfactant can be used as PTC aswell, very useful little reagent to have around

I have a bold idea: Since Ephedra sinica continuously releases ephedrine when dissolved in hot water, would it be possible to directly heat a mixture of Ephedra sinica, iodine, red phosphorus, and water under reflux for 24 hours? Would the resulting product potentially yield freebase methamphetamine directly?

No. I guess you'll get a black oily mixture. It has bad solubility in water.

I have obtained something very strange, a pink, cheese-like substance that is garbage.

hello. G.Paton
I have a few questions to ask you, because I am still a novice and I am not a native English speaker, so there are a few questions that I did not think through.
The problem is limited to Method 2 only
1: In step 1 A), is the weight of the fine powder 453 grams?

2. Step 2 a): Is the first step in the pyrex pot b) something put aside, or something?

3. In the second step e), what are the second solution and the first solution, respectively? Does the second solution refer to the solution in the second step, d)? Does the first solution mean the solution in step 2, c)?

4. So is the product in the first step c) the final product? I didn't understand what it had to do with step two.

Hello, yes. Correct.
It is seted aside mush before in step 1b
There is written about solution from steps 2b, 2c and 2d
There are two portions of product. From step 1 and step 2. What don't you understand? There is clearly written that there is ephedrine in step 1. Why do you assume we carry out step 2, for fun? =)

Hello master, can liquid paraffin replace naphtha? If not, what other solvent can replace it?
