With all due respect, I’d like to disagree. I’m a complete amateur, a beginner. I followed an excellent video/guide, and it really wasn’t that difficult. I used a bit of cooling with running cold tap water so that the flask could still be held by hand, and the vapor didn’t even reach a third of the condenser. The long neck of the flask obviously helped (see photo), but everything went very smoothly, and the whole experiment was a success — as far as I can tell. It was my second successful synthesis; the first one used half the amount of reagents but otherwise the same setup.

I’m not an expert, so take this with a grain of salt, but I assume that isopropyl alcohol in its pure form is more readily available, cheaper, less polar, and less reactive — so it’s probably the more suitable choice.

Hello, I have a small problem... I only got mercuric nitrate normanal... a volumetric solution... I followed the instructions for dilution exactly... my amalgam reacts and when I add p2np + acetic acid + iso after washing, it reacts very briefly and almost doesn't even heat up... the eccentric reaction lasts about 5 seconds and that's it... do you know what it could be? and one more question... my amphe is always excellent but the yield from 10g p2np is around 3g max, thank you...I follow exactly the procedures from your instructions

hello. after reaction with P2NP+ipa+acetic acid. when I add NaOh and leave it overnight there are two layers on top light yellow oil and at the bottom dark liquid only there are crystals in the bottom layer, as I guess it is sodium sulfate? the question is where could I have made a mistake was the temperature too high after adding P2NP i.e. more than 60 degrees? or if I added NaOH to an even warmer mixture? could I have done something else wrong?

Hello. I have had many successful syntheses, but I am still learning. The last synthesis was not entirely successful, so I am asking for advice. I made mistakes due to time pressure and too much confusion in the lab (synthesis without GAA, 10g P2NP):

1. Alkalization stage. Instead of NaOH, I accidentally added about 20ml of IPA. Then, adding 20ml of lye, the pH was about 14.

2. Not knowing what to do, so I added a solution of sulfuric acid and IPA 1:5. The pH was 9.

3. I went back to re-alkalization, freebase precipitated, then decantation and the next steps until the end of the synthesis were problem-free. Finally, washing with Acetone.

4. Unfortunately, the product had no power or speed after drying. My husband felt bad. Am I right and I ruined the product by adding too muc
