You're a fuckin lifesaver G. Patton!! I have been looking for an in depth procedure for the 40% aqueous solution of methylamine so I can attempt the Mephedrone HCL synthesis. Being in the US, I havent seen mephedrone since I could legally import it. So I have tracked down everything for doing this synth at half scale, (my limiting reagent is the 4-methylpropiophenone), except the 40% solution. With this writeup think I can pull it off. Then I might have to drop the cheddar for a liter of the 4mpp

Hey, I have a little p2p and was planning on reducing via Al/Hg amalgam.
I am going to make some methylamine HCl and was wondering if I absolutely have to bubble the freebase into water for the amalgam reduction or if I could get away with making a 30% methanol solution (the second method above).

Essentially what is the easiest way of utilising the HCl salt of methylamine in the reductive amination reaction with p2p. Thanks!

In this method of synthesis methamphetamine we use 88% ethanol and 40% aqueous methylamine.
So can we make methylamine free base 40% in ethanol and use it?

I tried to dissolve 34g NAOH in 46g ethanol. Are you sure NAOH is soluble in alcohol?
A salt formed and all of it went to the bottom of the beaker. I think NAOH has low solubility in alcohol.
Isn't it better we pour NAOH(S) in a flask and dissolve methylamine hcl in ethanol and add this solution to the NAOH flask and start strring. Reaction produces water. And more water dissolves all NAOH?
