There is no alternative.
It is to be synthetised from 4 methylopropiophenone, adding Br into the ring.
4 Methylopropiophenone is synthetised from toluene.

Do you prep your own toluene->PTSO->4MP and so forth?
I've decided to get over the ordering of direct precursors and just start trying creating them myself. Seems to be the quickest safest and easiest in reality. Just wondering if you could suggest any route or mechanism for making 4mp at home with "~OTC" stuff. Would like hear a pro's advice on the matter than jump in blindly. Thank you

We're being lazy guys. No, maybe we can't get 2b4mp straight away to our doorstep. We can get the stuff to make the 4MP. We can get the NaBr, EA, hexamine etc. We're suppsoed to be cooks but we can't get any BMK and we give up. C'mon gang!

If 4-methylbenzaldehyde is not restricted in your area, I can attempt to develop new synthetic processes.

It is not restricted in the US. Benzaldehyde is legal, it is just watched. So any analog would/should be more than fine.
You could probably start closer with something to 4mp
